Cutlery is an essential element of our table because it beautifies it, and there are all kinds of it! But when we see those water spots after washing them, it is a real nightmare because they are not as shiny as ever. If this has happened to you too, you don’t have to worry because I have the right solution! Let’s take a look together at natural and simple remedies to make stained cutlery look like new again!
Vinegar
When you need to make blackened and stained silver or steel items shiny again, vinegar is always the right solution! In the kitchen, then, this ingredient is especially popular for doing various chores, let’s see how to use it right away! You will need to fill a sink basin with hot water and 2 cups of white vinegar, then soak the cutlery. Leave them like this for several hours, then check them and go and scrub the most stubborn stains with a soft sponge. Rinse thoroughly and you will find that they will be shiny again!
Baking soda
Let’s move on by also seeing the cleaning effect that baking soda can have on blackened cutlery. Surely you are familiar with this product and know that not only in the kitchen but also throughout the home it is fantastic. It also turns out to be a fantastic Grandmother’s remedy for polishing silver. So, all you need to do is soak the cutlery in warm water and 4 tablespoons of baking soda, let it sit for a while so that the product sends away the water stains. Then wipe with a sponge and rinse, the result will be perfect!
Hydrogen peroxide
Although it may sound strange, hydrogen peroxide is ideal for making blackened cutlery shine again by giving it the shine it always has. To make the most of it, you can directly wash the cutlery with hydrogen peroxide on the sponge along with some baking soda. In case the stains are particularly stubborn, soak in warm water and half a glass of hydrogen peroxide, then repeat the same steps described above.
Caution. The hydrogen peroxide in question is the one for household use, that is, at 10 volumes.
Lemon juice
Let us now turn to lemon juice, a fabulous citrus fruit in household cleaning! Not everyone is aware that it is perfect for polishing dishes and especially steel, so it is perfect for our cutlery. You will need to fill the sink bowl with hot water and put the juice of 1 lemon inside, then leave the peels in as well and soak for a few hours. Afterwards rinse the cutlery and you will smell an intoxicating scent, as well as having it shiny again!
Yellow soap
Yellow soap is an old Grandmother’s trick that even today is not missing in every home! It is used purely in the washing machine, but is actually useful for so many other chores, such as washing stained cutlery. Spread a small ball of product on the soft side of the sponge and rub vigorously on the cutlery, then you just need to rinse it thoroughly with warm water. I recommend checking thoroughly that all soap residue is gone since the product has an oily consistency.
Citric acid
The last remedy I recommend making your cutlery new again is citric acid! Again, we are talking about a product that is no match for the detergents we always see on the market, so choosing it is the right move. All you have to do is dissolve 1/3 lb of citric acid in the basin full of water in the sink and then soak the cutlery. Let it sit for a while and then rinse thoroughly afterwards, that’s it! They will be as good as new!
Warnings
Try the various ingredients first in an inconspicuous corner to make sure you don’t damage the cutlery.
