Effective Methods to Clean Your Washing Machine

The washing machine is, if we can call it that, the star appliance in a home! Although they are all important, think of the oven or the refrigerator, there are many people who choose it first because washing clothes by hand would really be a nightmare. For all the benefits it brings and the time it gives us back, the washing machine asks only one thing in return: to be kept clean so it can function properly. Today we will see together how to wash each of its elements using only natural remedies!

Vacuum washing for the interior

The inside of the washing machine, which includes the drum and pipes, is the area that needs to be taken care of the most because it is in close contact with the clothes. In this regard, it is good to do a vacuum wash every month with natural ingredients that can send away all the limescale and mold that has accumulated day after day. You can use 2 full cups of vinegar, 1 cup of baking soda, half a 1 lb. of rock salt, a mixture of 1/3 lb. of citric acid in 1 quart of water, and so on. In short, you only need to choose the method you prefer!

Cleaning the small drawer

Even the drawer box does not fail to give some little problems, especially when we talk about mold. It is the latter that, alas, is likely to deteriorate the drawer if you do not pay special attention, so check its condition from time to time. If you notice that there is a need to refurbish it, you will need to prepare a thick paste with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide flush to get the consistency of a gel. Now proceed by putting the mixture on a toothbrush or soft sponge and gently scrub it all over the drawer. Rinse and you will see that it will be white again and as good as new!

Porthole

The porthole is what shows the “face” of the washing machine, so if it is dirty, the whole appliance will consequently look dirty. Very often lime scale or detergent stains stick to the porthole, but removing them is not a titanic task! You’ll simply need to fill a steamer 3 parts with vinegar and 1 part with water, spray generously all over the porthole, inside and out, then leave for a few minutes. Scrub with a sponge and rinse, you will then need to dry thoroughly to prevent any stains or halos from remaining.

Gasket

The gasket also contributes greatly to the accumulation of dirt inside the washing machine. To make sure that it can go away effectively, I cannot help but recommend the toothbrush method! You will need to prepare a thick mixture by mixing 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of bar soap. Put the mixture on the toothbrush and scrub over the gasket, paying special attention to the inner creases, those where most of the lime scale and mold usually sets in. Rinse with a microfiber cloth and it will be good as new again!

Filter

Let’s conclude the complete cleaning of the washing machine with the filter! Unlike the other elements of the washing machine, the filter needs cleaning two or maximum three times a year. Before cleaning it, take it apart by placing a pan under the door and most importantly you will need to unplug the appliance. Unscrew the filter and drop all the water into the pan, then soak it in a solution of equal parts water and vinegar for at least an hour. Afterwards, rinse the filter under running water and remove any remaining dirt with a toothbrush. Now all you have to do is dry it thoroughly and mount it back into the housing.

Warning

Consult any washing instructions, especially if the washing machine is new. Refer to an expert for extraordinary maintenance.
