How many times have you happened to wash your laundry in the washing machine and noticed shortly after that the nice scent was already gone? I imagine often! All we want at that moment is to wash the clothes again, use more detergent so that we have them smelling good again! But there is no need for that! Today, in fact, we will look together at some home tricks that can make the scent on the laundry in the washing machine does not vanish right away and make it, therefore, last longer!
How to wash it
The most important step, in order to keep the good smell on the laundry longer, is definitely the washing, as some mistakes made at this stage could even cause bad smells. Therefore, we advise you first of all not to use too much detergent in order to prevent detergent residues from soaking into the fabric fibers and being the cause of unpleasant odors. Also, avoid short washes as they do not allow optimal washing and rinsing. Another important caution concerns the amount of garments to be washed, as it would be good not to overfill the drum so that the garments have the material space to be washed and rinsed. Finally, remember to immediately hang out the laundry as soon as the wash cycle is finished to avoid the build-up of moisture, which immediately causes the good smell on the clothes to vanish.
What ingredients to use
The use of the right products to achieve and maintain a good scent on your laundry is important. In this regard, we recommend natural ingredients that you surely already have in your pantry or, in any case, easy to find. Let’s see, then, how to make an all-natural DIY detergent that can impart an intoxicating scent to your laundry.
Mix, then, 2 tablespoons of liquid organic soap, and a tablespoon of baking soda and add, then, 10 drops of essential oil of your choice between orange, lemon, geranium, bergamot or lavender essential oil, which are among the most suitable for perfuming clothes. After that, pour some of this mixture into the washing machine tub and start the wash cycle-your clothes will smell better than ever! In addition, if you also want to use a natural product that can act as a natural fabric softener, then we recommend citric acid. All you will need to do is pour 5 ounces of citric acid into a 1 quart of distilled water and pour 3 tablespoons of the resulting mixture, a tablespoon of salt and a teaspoon of flaky organic soap into the washing machine tub.
Optimal drying
Not only the washing step is important in order to have fragrant laundry, but also the drying step. It is important, in fact, that the clothes are hung out in the open so that they have the right air exchange. Also, try to hang them out in the sun, as the sun amplifies the smell of your clothes more. An additional trick might be to take the clothes off the clothesline while they are still “warm” from the direct action of the sun-they seem, in fact, to give off an intoxicating smell! In case, however, you cannot let them dry outside, know that it is possible to dry them indoors, provided, however, that you follow certain precautions, including always placing them in a well-ventilated room of the house.
