The Lid Trick to Clean Mattresses and Sofas in No Time

Cleaning the mattress is not exactly the nicest thing to do as we are talking about a heavy, not-so-small sized item. Alas, there always comes a time when you need to refresh it to have it perfect and not let dust and bacteria accumulate. To save time and effort today we will look together at the lid method, a very interesting trick that you can use to your advantage and make the mattress like new again!

What is needed

Let’s first see what is needed to kick off our fantastic trick that will make your mattress white, shiny and clean! Don’t worry, you’ll only need a few ingredients that I’m sure you already have at home, let’s find out together:

  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide
  • 1 tablespoon of liquid or flaky soap melted in a water bath
  • 6 drops of lavender essential oil
  • Lid of a pot

Baking soda is an already popular remedy for dry-cleaning a mattress without having to put undue stress on it. As for bar soap and hydrogen peroxide, these are two ingredients that will help not only remove stains and degrease, but also whiten and leave an intoxicating scent! Lavender essential oil is best to have on the bed as it has a relaxing action, but you can choose any other fragrance.

The procedure is very simple, and we will find out right away! First, you will need to dissolve the soap flakes and then combine them with the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Stir continuously until you get a single solution. Then add the essential oils and you will have what you need to have the perfect mattress! Dip a microfiber or cloth into the bowl and tie it to the lid, securing it with a rubber band on the pot handle. Do an initial wipe with the wettest cloth (not excessively so), then continue by wiping the cloth a few more times with the wrung-out cloth, still secured to the lid. If there are stains on the mattress, you can use a soft sponge and rub on the dirt. Then let the mattress dry with the balcony open so that air can circulate, and there it will be as good as new!

Other methods of cleaning the mattress

In addition to the one just mentioned, there are also other methods to clean the mattress, let’s see the most popular ones together:

Baking soda dry method: you will need to spread the baking soda evenly over the mattress, in which case help yourself with a strainer. Leave the baking soda for 30 minutes on each side and then vacuum it up.

Apple cider vinegar: another very effective solution! You will need to put a few drops of vinegar on a microfiber cloth and rub it all over the mattress removing the stains, then let it dry.

Lemon juice and citric acid: mix 1/3 lb. of citric acid in 1 quart of water and add the juice of 1 lemon. Pour it all into a steamer and spray on the mattress, then wipe with a cloth and let it dry!

I remind you that it is very important to consult labels or mattress washing instructions to identify which elements are most appropriate.
